Saturday I went to my midwife appointment and my cervix had regressed…so she didn’t want to break my water and risk the cord prolapsing…then I went in for my second acupuncture appointment and while I was there my midwife called a nurse midwife friend of hers and asked her to come check me… she stripped my membranes and gave me another concoction of herbs to take and we all made a game plan. I got home and took the herbs 10 minutes later I took 2 oz of castor oil and a shot of whiskey then I had to do the breast pump 2 minutes on and 2 minutes off for 5 HOURS!!!!! The castor oil started to kick in after an hour so that was fun. Then at 2:30 I had to do more herbs, was supposed to do them again at 4:30 but I was starting to get a little cramping and said to myself I’m not drinking more of that sh*t.
Dave decided he was going to run to the grocery store to pick up more Powerade for me and a couple things for dinner, when he got home I was gripping the sheets on my bed trying to time contractions…I told him they were coming too close too quick and something was wrong to call Emma (my midwife). She wanted to here me listen to the breath through the contractions and then told him to bring me in right now this was 5:30ish. Let me just tell you how much fun it is driving down a bumpy country back road while your contractions are coming one after another.
At this point the contractions were about a minute apart lasting over a minute the drive to the birth center was killing me I felt possessed…kept arching my back and wiggling like that was going to help. When we got there my midwife had just gotten there minutes before just enough time to put on scrubs and put pads on the bed. I felt like I had to pee so I went into the bathroom and sat there for what seemed like forever. Emma kept asking if she could come in and I kept saying no. Finally when there was a break in contractions I got up and walked to the birthing suite and flopped on the bed.
She wanted to get the baby’s heartbeat but I could not lay flat on my back or still enough for her to get it. I was writhing in pain finally she said let me ck your cervix well as soon as she went to check my water was right there about a 1/2 inch from being outside me and she said if I break your water your contractions are going to get stronger I really want to get the baby’s heartbeat before that happens. I kept telling her to break it because I couldn’t stay still she got on the bed and all of a sudden my water broke all over the place there was a ton of it, way more than the US accounted for, it was clear so that was good and then Elliott’s head came out too. My midwife thought maybe she had her shoulder stuck and told me to push so I did and she came right out.
She was not breathing/crying when she came out so Dave out the Oxygen by her face I was rubbing her feet and my midwife was rubbing her back and suctioning her. She started to breathe after about 30 seconds but never cried. She still isn’t much of a crier.
We did delayed cord clamping but because her cord was so short I couldn’t nurse her right away. After about 20 minutes her cord was cut by daddy and we watched Elliott get checked out. I absolutely LOVE that she never left our sight and that we were the only 2 people in the building who were being taken care of. After Elliott was weighed, I nursed her then we took an herbal bath together. It was so sweet and relaxing and something I’d never even thought of doing after birth but I cherished the time washing my sweet brand new baby girl.
At 10:00 pm my mom brought the kids to meet her, Sebastian’s first words were “Oh I LOVE her!” it was the cutest thing ever! All the kids adored her and couldn’t wait to hold her, touch her hands, kiss her and sing to her, my heart swelled with happiness and love for my little (…not so little?) family They left about 10:45 and Dave, Elliott and I just laid in bed cuddling and talking and loving on our newest princess.
At 1:15 AM we were able to go home and I was starving so we stopped at Jack in the Box…with our 6 hour old baby…who can say that? lol

Here is my recipe for French Onion Soup that everyone loves. This is pretty much an all day affair kind of soup so make it when you plan on spending the day at home.
Here are the ingredients you will need to make my famous French Onion Soup plus 8 beef bullion cubes I forgot to grab out for the photo.
In a soup pot add your stick of butter and about 1/4 cup of olive oil, let melt over medium heat. Thinly halve and slice 3 pounds of onions. Add them to your pot, stir and put a lid on. Let them cook for 1.5-2 hours until they are soft and translucent but not brown. Stir every 15-20 minutes.
The onions will really cook down. When they look like this add your salt, pepper, bullion cubes, Worcestershire sauce, Thyme, garlic and brown sugar. Let cook together another 20 minutes or so. Slowly add 3 cartons of reduced sodium beef broth. Bring to boil and leave it there for 30 minutes then let simmer 4-6 hours.
This time we topped our soup with Provologne (my hubbies fave) cheese but I prefer Swiss then just put in the microwave for about 15 seconds until the cheese gets all melty
This soup is even better on the second day if it lasts that long!
