Yeas that is a BIG OLE WHINE!!!!! Seriously I can’t take anymore heat! It’s September 29th and it is Supposed to be 102 degrees?!?!?! That is 90 days over 100 so far this year. Can we get some cool crisp fall air around here please?

I am trying to be optimistic that it’s right around the corner so I made a Halloween wreath, isn’t it adorable? I can’t wait to decorate for Halloween

Last night Dave and I got out for a couple hours for our date night…but we weren’t alone. I was on a first date with my shiny new Nikon D700 and Nikkor 24-70 2.8!!! What?!?!? Nikon you say?!?!?! But you’ve been shooting  Canon for 7 years! That’s right…I flirted with Nikon back in March purchasing a D300s and a couple lenses. I played with them over the supper and liked the results, the color is so much different straight out of the camera even when all the settings are the same. So I sold the D300S and a lens and bought the D700 a couple weeks ago and Thursday by ginormous new lens was delivered from B&H. I am currently selling my Nikon 85 1.8, if you are interested email me at heather@ vanityphotography.net

Anywho….back to my little story so after dropping the kids off and running downtown to Precision Camera and The Container Store we stopped at Panera Bread for dinner. It was so yummy! We haven’t eaten there since we lived in Omaha over 5 years ago…I so wish they put one closer to Hutto! After we ate, we had some time so I pulled out the big gun and snapped a few snapshots of David. He looks thrilled doesn’t he? ;P These are all straight out of the camera, resized for web. I think Nikon and I might get along well;)

If you are interested in a session this fall, I have a few openings left, www.vanityphotography.net or on facebook

Make your own chalk paint!

Monday, July 25th, 2011

Boredom has finally set in at our casa and school doesn’t even start for another month! Even though its well over a hundred degrees here we decided to make some chalk paint. The kids were super excited and then painted for about 10 minutes before they were beet red sweaty messes…I’ll have to file this one away for a 20 degree cooler day but they really enjoyed it.

Here’s what you need:

Muffin tin (or if you want something sealable, baby food jars would work great!)
Cornstarch (about 2 tablespoons for each color)
Food Coloring (add less for pastels more for vibrant colors)
Water

Put your cornstarch in your muffin tins, add your food coloring and a wee bit of water to make a paste/slurry. Make sure everything is dissolved. Then take your tin, paint brushes and cup of water outside to add more water. Have fun!

That’s it. Talk about cheap and easy…sorry Crayola.

{Hutto Photographer} Memphis!

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

I had SUCH a great vacation. My mom took me to Nashville for CMA Fest, we were supposed to go last year but I was in no condition for a road trip and 4 days of concerts. I drove so there aren’t any cool driving pictures just some fun ones from our night on Beale St. in downtown Memphis.

First we headed out to Corky’s BBQ because I got so many recommendations, the ribs were super delish!

Once on Beale Street all we saw were hundreds and hundreds of motorcycles! It was biker night! There were some AMAZING custom bikes out there. I had no clue there was so much variety;)

We walked around a bit and they had these little street front bars that I thought were just plain genius! So we got ourselves a Hurricane…it was NOT like any Hurricane I’d ever had before but I choked it down anyway since you could walk on the street and go into other bars with your drinks. They also had some fun beers on tap but I’m not a beer kinda girl. This sign at one of the bars had me CRACKING up! I thought it was so clever!
We popped into a few more bars and listened to some bands and then had to head into some of the souvenir shops before completing our night. We had to be on the road bright and early to head into Nashville the next morning. Need a toilet seat with some dancing cats on it? I know where to find them;)
I hope you enjoyed a little glimpse of Memphis, I’m hoping to get Nashville up in a few posts by the end of the summer so keep checking back;)

{Hutto Photographer} Quickie just for fun!

Tae and I have new do’s! She is seriously super happy…you’d think I let her have a hamster. lol We got our hair done yesterday…for 4.5 hours. Tae’s hair would not bleach, they used the strongest bleach twice and it still would not let go of all her deep brown. I still think it looks cute but we know for sure that the purple will work in her hair next time so we’ll just stick with that. My friend and GREAT MUA Carolina did our makeup. We loved it and her! If you need a makeup artist for any event let me know and I’ll get the 2 of you in touch.

School’s out for the summer!

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

Today I sent my babies off for the last day of 4th grade and Kindergarten. It is so bittersweet! Yesterday they had their awards ceremonies and i was just BEAMING with pride! I have such amazingly kind and smart and awesome kids! Tae and Bash will be saying goodbye to Hutto Elementary it’s been a great school and Tae has gone since Kindergarten. Next year they both will be starting at a new school, Gateway Charter in Georgetown and I couldn’t be more excited for them to have this opportunity.

Here is a snap taken about an hour ago, they have changed so much this school year!

Also while we are on the subject of summer…if you live in Central Texas you know it is already crazy hot…or at least crazy hot for this NY girl! For that reason I will not be accepting any outdoor sessions in July or August. I am though still accepting a limited number studio custom session and newborn sessions of course:)
